Values of cottages are not expected to drop.   The selling season for cottages in Ontarion stretches from April 1st to October 30th and there are good reasons for this ‘cottage selling season’.   With 3 feet of snow on the ground, frozen lakes and closed roads to areas of vacation land there is little reason to come to explore in winter.   Buyers are unable to see the depth of the lake and whether it is deep or shallow water, sand beach or mud bottom.  The location of the septic system, well or even the docking areas are difficult to find.  The snow hides the condition of the shingles on the roof, prevents viewing of the crawl spaces under summer cottages and covers any landscaping including patios, walkways and decks.    April brings buyers and the owners of cottages know from their experience it is time to list.   This is the season and for the next 6 months agents at Muskoka Real Estate Services will be working as hard as the squirrels.  Agents are expecting another successful season to allow them and Muskoka squirrels to put their nuts away allowing them to get through the winter.  Prices will remain stable if the Canadian economic situation remains in line with expectations.
