Overview
A Muskoka Lake located on the Trent-Severn Waterway System connecting Georgian Bay and Lake Ontario. Access to this system is one of the most common reasons for purchasers to locate on the lake. This connection leads a higher number of large watercraft traversing the length of the lake, coming from Lake Couchiching and heading to Glouchester Pool near Georgian Bay. The connection has introduced zebra mussels to the lake which has had a beneficial result…the lake is clearer because the mussels filter the water. The average depth is about 12 feet but there are areas 50 feet deep.
There are very weedy areas which are great fish habitat which has resulted in Sparrow Lake being a well known fishing lake in summer for large and small mouth bass or ice fishing in the winter for pickerel, northern pike, Muskie. It also attracts lots of ducks and in the fall you might try harvesting some of the wild rice in your canoe. If you are purchasing a cottage before the weeds are up in Spring or have died off for the winter be sure to ask where they are because only a portion of the lake is adversely affected. The lake has some sandy shorelines areas especially in the southern area and more Muskoka Granite shorelines in the north and west. About 7% of the lake is now undeveloped and protected shoreline.
‘Trentwood’ is a subdivision of cottages built on a peninsula in the lake in the 1970’s. There are three marinas on the lake for maintenance or gas. Over 400 cottagers have shared the lake with the well established resorts. Resorts such as Bayview Wildwood are still among the elite in Muskoka. The resorts and the Silver Pines Restaurant provide opportunities to boat your guests to a dinner location on the lake. Owners have access from a variety of paved year round municipally maintained roads and some private gravel roads. Shopping locations include Gravenhurst to the north and Washago to the South. Many children had their first experience on the lake at one of the children’s camps. From the intersection of Hwy #400 and #401 it is 93 miles to Sparrow Lake.
